With such a profound and rich Irish history, it was obvious choice to Kathleen McGavin, Tony's niece, to research into his families' tree. Little did she know that with the help of Ancestry.com, she would be able to trace back 6 generations, all the way back to the 1700's.
In the family tree above, Tony's position is highlighted in yellow. Some family members are not able to be shown as they are still alive and there are privacy conditions that are in place, yet it is able to be known if they are male or female. These people are marked as private.
The most surprising result from Tony's family tree, in my opinion, is to find that his father had 11 siblings. This really gave an insight as to what the size of families were in the 1900's.
The family tree traces back to Tony's great, great grandparents, Thomas Fitzpatrick and Bridget Canny. Many of Tony's immediate family was named after previous family members, including Tony himself, who was named after his grandfather, Thomas Fitzpatrick.
The photo to the right, sourced off Ancestry.com, is of Tony's grandparents, his grandfather Thomas F. Fitzpatrick and his grandmother Bridget Considine. The pair later went on to have 12 children, Tony's father being one of them.
Finding out this information about Tony's family tree and his families efforts to trace back his family tree was definitely one of the most interesting pieces of information that I have analysed through my interviewing.
There were a lot of documents that Tony and his family had accessed and discovered through Ancestry.com, but unfortunately, due to membership charges and costs, I didn't have access to these documents and pictures. I have gathered and evaluated as many documents and photographs as I can.
